Rio Vista Senior Living as an expansion to the Olive Avenue Post Office in Downtown Burbank, CA
For this assignment, four different sites with existing buildings were given to be combined with three program typologies. The combination I made was a Senior Living Center as an expansion to the Olive Avenue Post Office in Downtown Burbank, CA. I wanted the Senior Living to be a pleasant place to be while having a lot of activities to enjoy throughout the day.

Office, housekeeping, medical service, movie theater, and a terrace that is shared with the Post Office where both residents and employees can spend some time outdoors.

Communal living room on the center of the floor is surrounded by spaces such as library, game room, music room, cooking learning center, art room, and chapel, having people interact when walking from one room to the other.

Spa where residents can have a full spa experience with massage rooms and a salon, making the residents feel better and take care of themselves while having privacy. Another program in this building is a Pilates classroom, since it also helps with rehabilitation, and it would be nice for the elderly to exercise without having to leave the building.

An important aspect in the project are the terraces. There is always access to fresh air in every floor of the building, including a yoga terrace and a garden where residents can enjoy the sunlight, have contact with a nature environment, and be around other people. Even though there are many terraces, they are all connected to one another by ramps and stairs where people can sit and read a book for example.
Chunk Model
The chunk model represents the library of the Senior Living, showing the arch bookshelves, some of the different brick bonds used in the project, and the use of channel glass and traditional glass depending on the privacy wanted in the space.
