Frogtown Library
As part of this project, our studio was assigned with creating a library for Frogtown, a highly gentrified area in the Elysian Valley, to be situated on a park. Residents are looking for new homes as the cost of living in this area continues to rise. We were required to investigate the region, analyze the site, and determine how a library would benefit the neighborhood. We were also required to develop a special program that would help Frogtown handle another social issue in the community.
Frogtown is highly affected by unemployment, given that many residents of the Frogtown community have only graduated from high school, they have a hard time finding a steady source of employment when they go to enter the workforce. In addition to the library, I chose to create a learning center for people from 18 to 30 years old that have only a high school diploma or less, which will offer free short courses to help residents get on the workforce.
