Brainy ADU

The goal for this assignment was to develop a Schoolhouse ADU for four students with variable schedules that needed to be 1000 sqft.

The narrative I created for this assignment was:

Rebeca, Giulia, Polliana, and Mariana are best friends from Brazil. Since Middle School, they had the dream to go to university in LA together and share their experience during college time. Even though they are best friends, they have quite different majors and personalities. Instead of renting an apartment to share, Giulia asked her uncle that already lives in LA to let all the girls stay in the ADU that he has in his property, while also having someone to count on when they need.

Rebeca is a Graphic Design Major at a Glendale community college. She loves drawing on her iPad during her free time, and she sells some of the artwork on her website, so a quiet and inspirational room is important. She also likes to wake up early to exercise and meditate before going to college during the afternoon.

Giulia is a Psychology major at Syracuse University Los Angeles. She works during the morning at an Employment company, she is an intern at a Psychology clinic during the afternoon, and she has class during the night. Giulia is usually tired of long workday, so she needs a room to relax and recover for the next day. On the other hand, during the weekends she enjoys going to parties and she arrives late at night, so it would be good to arrive home without waking up the other girls.

Polliana is attending Medical School at UCLA. She studies most of the time, including weekends, so a nice and quiet place to study will be essential. Besides going to university, she works part time at a Health Center during 3 days of the week. She usually wakes up early to go to university and goes to bed early. During her free time, she likes reading books.

Mariana is Architecture student at Woodbury University. She likes waking up early to do her online Pilates class. Then, she goes to university to have class. When she gets back home, she usually studies and goes to bed only when she is done with all the homework. Mariana likes to study in a space with good natural light, and a big table to all her architecture materials and models, including a place to put her 3D printer.

During the weekends, on their free time, they enjoy having karaoke and game nights.

The perfect ADU would have a big living room with enough space for karaoke and game nights, quiet and calm space for Mariana’s Pilates class and for Rebeca to meditate, a kitchen, dining room, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms with closet and storage with enough space for them. Mariana will share a room with Giulia since both sleep late and wake up early. Their room will have skylights to allow more natural light in the space, and big study tables. Rebeca and Polliana will share the other room since they both need at quiet place. The room will have study tables, a place for Polliana’s books, and a nice space for Rebeca to do her drawings.
