Spiritual space on Woodbury University Campus
This transformative project, aptly titled "A Place for the Spirit," on Woodbury University's campus, was conceived in response to the 23rd Annual Steel Design Student Competition organized by The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). Envisioned as a welcoming and inclusive space for spiritual exploration, the design incorporates elements for worship, meditation, learning, and fellowship. With steel as the primary material, symbolizing strength and modernity, this project not only addresses the competition's parameters but also reflects the innovative and interdisciplinary approach of the students at Woodbury University. The integration of spiritual and architectural principles, as inspired by the ACSA competition, underscores the project's commitment to fostering a sense of community and contemplation within the university landscape.
Sacred lens
This spiritual space is a peaceful and contemplative place that connects visitors to their inner self, the world around them, and multiple worlds, encouraging visitors to look upwards, inwards, and outwards. When visitors enter the building, they walk down a ramp that leads to the main spiritual space. The narrow entrance creates a sense of anticipation, and upon arrival, visitors are met with a large room that opens to the sky. The surrounding rooms are located on different levels and offer unique views of the sky, the inside, and the world around. Overall, this place of contemplation is a multi-layered experience in which the gaze turns upwards, inwards, and outwards. A place of peace and calmness in which one can feel a sense of connection with one’s inner self as well as a dialogue with the world in a larger sense.
